We exist to enhance and inspire music. Balancing the art of fine woodworking with acoustic physics to create sonically mindful, artisan guitars.
Proprietors Becca and Tom Nania began their shop and lab to develop a holistic approach to guitar making. Becca designs our guitars and amplifiers, aesthetically defining our instruments with exceptional attention to detail. Tom is an Affiliated Scholar in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Indiana University, South Bend, conducting acoustic physics research for the good of guitars. Tom studied guitar making at the Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair. Above all, he is a lifetime guitar player.
In collaboration with Indiana University, South Bend, we are conducting an in-depth study of Archtop guitar dynamics. Implementing the sound methods of the research of the violin community and utilizing precise measurement techniques developed in the acoustics based search for particle dark matter, we are gaining an unprecedented understanding of this historically significant instrument.
This study traces the acoustic shifts throughout the working steps of building an Archtop, from raw timber to completed instrument. This publication is nearing completion and will be open source, for all to access!
